Activities

There is so much to do from walking to extreme sports! The Camel Estuary excels in water sports and there are surf schools at Harlyn Bay and kite surfing and lots of other water sports at Watergate Bay. Other activities include horse riding, golf, tennis, cycling and fishing trips!

Golf Courses
This area of the North Cornish coast has some wonderful Golf Courses including the world renowned St Enodoc Golf Course which nestles above the sand dunes in Rock and boasts one of the finest link courses in the south west of England. Due to its location, the course has some beautiful scenery across the estuary and the ‘church course’ takes you past the beautiful St Enodoc church which was much loved by John Betjeman. The course provides a challenge on its hilly terrain and no two holes are the same. Just a short drive from here, situated in St Minver is Roserrow Golf and Country Club which again, provides a great course, incorporating a wooded valley and a stream and beautiful views out to Polzeath. Further inland on the other side of Wadebridge is St Kew Golf Club which has a great course set in delightful parkland with stretching views across open countryside and out to the estuary. Last, but by no means least, is the well known Trevose Golf and Country Club which is situated just a few miles from Padstow and looks out to the imposing Trevose Head and lighthouse.  The course provides challenges and enjoyment for every level of golfer and the experience of playing here is made even more magical as you are surrounded by some of the most beautiful coastline in the world. There are three courses here – Championship, Headland and the Short course ensuring that there is something for everyone.

Watersports and Sailing
As the Camel Estuary and surrounding coastline lends itself so easily to water sports there is a huge variety of activities to do during your stay.  Located in Rock there is a sailing club and sailing school which caters for complete beginners as well as advanced sailors and there is also a ski school where you can try your hand at water skiing or just have fun messing about on the banana boat! There are many canoeing and kayaking trips to be found in the area and also a variety of fishing trips and boat hire from both Padstow and Rock. For those who would rather experience the open sea there are many surf and wind surfing schools along the coastline and if you want to be really adventurous you can always do some cliff climbing or cave diving!

Cycling
The Camel Trail, one the of the country's most popular off road cycling facilities is part owned by North Cornwall District Council and by Cornwall County Council. Managed as a Partnership involving local community organisations, the Camel Trail is carefully maintained and promoted in order to accommodate the 350,000 users each year. The Camel Trail is a 18 mile largely traffic free cycleway which passes through some of the most spectacular countryside in the south west. Following the disused railway line once used by the London and South West Railway, cyclists hug the Camel Estuary from Padstow to Wadebridge before joining the route through the deeply incised and beautifully wooded 'Camel Valley' to Bodmin. At Bodmin yet another line, one of the most historic in the country, winds its way inland to the foot of Bodmin Moor where it comes to an end near Blisland, an extraordinarily pretty moorland village.

Spa's
If you would rather spend your holiday relaxing and pampering yourself, there are many great health spa’s and treatment rooms in the area.  Roserrow Golf and Country Club has a fitness suite as well as a swimming pool and jacuzzi, sauna and steam room. They also specialise in Elemis treatments in their Reflections Beauty Spa.  Hustyns resort just outside Wadebridge has a pool, steam room, sauna and health and beauty spa, as well as offering a wide range of massage therapies. St Moritz located near Polzeath also has a pool with sauna and jacuzzi etc as well as providing facials and beauty treatments in their new cowshed spa.

For all beauty treatments try The Beauty Studio situated in The Old Custom House in Padstow 01841 532359

Walking in the area

The stunning coastal walks provide the ideal place to explore the North Cornish coast and you can do as much or as little as you like. There are easy routes that you can amble along from one beach to the next or more demanding stretches for those of you who like a challenge! People travel from all over the world to see the breathtaking and unforgettable scenery and to us, there is nowhere better. The coastline changes dramatically from sheer cliffs to sandy coves and the flower and plant life is exquisite at certain times of the year, not to mention the wildlife. Seabirds are always a great attraction and if you are lucky you may see some seals in the sea or on the rocks or even dolphins in the summer! A popular attraction down here is The Saints Way. This is a 28 mile footpath that takes you right across the heart of the region from tranquil Harbours and ports to rugged cliff tops and travels all the way from Padstow down to Fowey on the south coast. The Saints Way, or Forth an Syns in Cornish, is based upon ancient trade routes that historians suspect date back to the bronze age. Steeped in history, this walk will take you past holy wells and standing stones as well as more modern day sights and of course, even more breathtaking scenery. The route is clearly marked and signposted and you can join and finish anywhere you like – it is the perfect way to explore the outstanding countryside between the two coasts.
